Kanatahkwen:ke brings to life a long-held vision for the community and its visitors. Kanatahkwèn:ke was created to honor, preserve, and share the rich history, traditions, and living culture of Kahnawa:ke and the Kanienʼkehá:ka. “We are honoured to welcome our community, neighbours, and visitors to Kanatahkwèn:ke as we celebrate this significant achievement together.” Said Lisa Kawennanó:ron Phillips, Executive Director, Kanien’kehá:ka Onkwawén:na Raotitióhkwa Language and Cultural Center. “Kanatahkwèn:ke
represents not only a new gathering place, but also a lasting commitment to sharing our stories, culture, and traditions with tehatikonhshontátie’s (those faces still to come).”
Kanatahkwen:ke will also serve as a hub for the performing arts, creating a dedicated space where theatre, music, storytelling, dance, and creative expression come alive for generations to come. “For over thirty years, we have dreamed of having a dedicated theatre space. On September 10, we will proudly open the doors of Kanatahkwen:ke to our community and to everyone who has supported this journey. This building and all its possibilities belong to all of us, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone home, to our Turtle Island Theatre.”Jessica Hernandez, Turtle Island Theatre Board of Directors.
